In the middle of winter when weddings are fewer and we have time to reflect on the past year, it's nice to get a little good news from friends and clients. Here's a letter we received this weekend.

"I wanted to say thank you again for the wonderful job you did on our wedding photos. Jack and I are still getting comments on them over a year later and every time I look at them, I see a new photo that I had not noticed before and love. You both did a great job. I'd like to believe we're fashionably late in posting our 2008 slide show, but I think we're simply late :)

Well, the holiday season brings us honestly cold weather for the first time since I don't know when, and although our toeses and noses aren't happy about it, it finally feels like winter. I think that's a good thing.

The blog is getting ready for a major update which explains our lack of posts ( eight weddings waiting for a home!!!) but that doesn't mean we can't share a little spirit with anyone who's willing to receive it. And since most of Richmond is lit up and decorated in some fashion, I thought I'd share a little fun and love with our beloved friends lining the median of Monument Ave. If you're interested, we can create a set of festive postcards for you with our little project here :)

Generations of little hineys...

When we visited Annie's great-grandmother on Halloween this year, her "sito" (pronounced like "sit-ah", colloquial Lebanese Arabic) pulled out this tiny little couch for Annie to sit upon. She told us that her uncle, that would be Annie's great-great-uncle, made it for her when she was two or three years old. The moment that little couch hit the floor, Annie promptly made it her own and put her little hind end right in it, making her the fourth generation of girls in Lindsay's family to sit there. I think that's kinda cool. Upon further investigation...that little couch was in amazing shape for being seventy seven years old.

The oddly placed coffee cup in the third image is for scale :)

Recently, we took a much needed mini-vacation to Manhattan in what has proven to be a very, very busy wedding season. Three days isn't nearly enough, but we'll have to wait until the actual off season for some serious R&R. Annie is now of the movin'/groovin'/talkin' stage so we thought it would be great to get out to some of NYCs kid-friendly museums and parks. In what proved to be the coup of the decade for lodging, Don found the newly restored Beacon Hotel in the Upper West Side for a steal (Orbitz, folks. Orbitz). Home to Sarah Jessica/Matthew Broderick, one of Lindsay's favorite families, it's a kid friendly neighborhood and we had no problem finding markets and diners at any hour within easy walking distance. Mr. Broderick himself wandered past us as we looked over the fresh produce at the Fairway Market. Given that our room at the Beacon was a two room suite with tons of closet space and full kitchen, there was nothing lacking for the meal times and quiet times that are so important in the toddler age. Central Park, the Children's Zoo, the Natural History museum, long walks to Columbus Circle and F.A.O. Schwarz...we had a great time all around.

A few tips for fellow travelers...business class on Amtrak is great for this age. With security, possible delays, and the restrictions of air travel, the train is a great way to go for NYC. The fact that you end up square in the middle of the city is a benefit and cuts a great deal of headache and time off your trip as compared to air travel (roughly 45 minute difference in comparison). The ability to walk around is reason enough and nap time was no problem at all. From Penn Station, the Uptown Express was two stops and a 10 minute subway ride to our hotel.

No complaints at all. Enjoy!

The InLight Exhibition - Downtown Richmond

The 1708 Gallery hosted the InLight Exhibition on September 5th of this year. It was a collection of light-based installations scattered around four city blocks from Belvedere to Adams street, with Broad Street as the backbone to the exhibit. Even with the steady rain, there was a good number of brave people out for the show. Ansel Olsen (designer and photographer extraordinaire) and I took our umbrellas and our enthusiasm out to the streets to see what there was to see. Electricity and a steady downpour? Count me in. Enjoy.
